My Foray into Ayurvedic Cleansing: Day 4
Day 4 and I'm feeling great!
OK, so yesterday wasn't so good, but I was expecting that … my energy was low and I was more than a little irritable (just ask my husband and our dog). I'm still trying to find balance eating the right amount of food to keep my energy level up, but not overeat. Plus, like other cleansers on this journey, I'm still going about my normal life with all the commitments it entails … teaching yoga, running my business and doing volunteer work. Sometimes mealtimes don't fit into my schedule. I didn't have the energy to do a full yoga practice, but I did fit in a nice nature walk during the afternoon at Pease Park. Just being outside among the trees on a beautiful fall day was cathartic for my soul and by evening, my outlook was brighter.
Surprisingly, after a fitful night of sleep, I awoke with a lot of energy and a positive attitude. Instead of the typical rolled oats for breakfast, I decided to make a smoothie. I've never been much for smoothies, usually opting for something more substantial for breakfast, but it was exactly what I needed and so easy to make. Here's the recipe:
1 C frozen organic berries
1 organic apple
1 C unsweetened almond milk
1 t Stevia powder
2 T organic whey protein
½ t organic vanilla extract
Mix all in a a blender.
A suggestion for this cleanse is to eat at least 3 organic apples a day, and since I was tiring of them already, I decided to throw one into my smoothie. It was great! I had so much energy I decided to take a nice, warm and rigorous yoga class. My high energy level continued for the rest of the day and I was able to accomplish so much more than the day before. Even though I've had a couple of nights craving sweets or a glass of wine, I much prefer having this level of energy than going back to my old eating patterns. So far, the trade-off is worth it
